Promoting faithlessness through honest inquiry

Desolate Grave of the Insane

Entombed, cradled, swaddled in grave clothes,
Forced upon me, raping with its threats.
I am the sepulcher of a demigod.

Requisite homage, subservience, love?
This the way of a master.
I am the serf of an apparition.

Guilty of honest inquiry, I have questioned the One.
Failing to see mercy in abject mental poverty,
I am the sincerely unconvinced.

Emptiness beneath an unforgiving sky,
Echoing in the minds of the mourning,
I am the desolate grave of the insane.

To the Christian

To the Christian:

You hold fast to your belief that a god made humans in some private garden for the purpose of communing with them. In this garden he planted an exquisite array of fruits and vegetables suitable for their consumption, caused animals to be at peace with one another, and regularly enjoyed walking with his finest creation. Oblivious to their rapidly approaching fall, our ancestors were basking in the warmth of their perfect domain, aware of only one prohibition -- "[O]f the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die." Having little to do, God perhaps sought entertainment in placing a serpent, "more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made," in the garden. Many of you maintain that this serpent actually spoke to Eve. The serpent was allowed to deceive Eve. Oh, sin of sins, most horrible of all, Eve was tricked and didn't even realize how terrible this was, having been childlike in her understanding of obedience and disobedience. It was not until she was punished that she realized her sad state. Thankfully she wasn't hungry enough to eat the fruit from the Tree of Life; that would have undermined the punishment they were warned about, namely death. Having escaped that hurdle in the plan, God takes a quick wait-for-Adam-to-eat-the-fruit breather. Why didn't Eve stop to point out her nipples to make Adam think she was acting funny?

"Hey, Adam, have you ever noticed these? They look neat. I think I need something to cover them," an enlightened Eve may have pondered.

Biblical Forgiveness is Absurd

Are we not enamored by the beauty of the universe? Have we neglected the love of nature in our lives without acknowledgment of any divine being? Were majesty truly boundless, were we not daily encompassed by horrors, we may release our rational minds more freely, preferring faith in the supernatural. We no longer cling to fables of perfect gods and wicked angels, dragons and magical turtles, or perpetual reincarnations in our quest to understand our surroundings. In fact, we find the stories to be neither convincing nor cunningly crafted.

God vs. God

In the beginning, God created the light and darkness, the heavens and the earth, and plants and animals. He then proceeded to create evil, and, satisfied with his work, declared everything in his creation to be good. He created man and from him woman and placed them in a garden. In this garden, he caused a tree to grow whose fruit would empower man to know good and evil. The serpent, the embodiment of that which is evil, did not creep in undetected, for God knew everything. Now God didn't warn these humans, still innocent and very credulous, about this serpent's intentions.

Atrophy of Reason

Meeting Jesus
When I was five years old, I had a dream that Jesus was standing on the sidewalk in front of my neighbor's home. He walked toward me, beckoning for me to come toward him. The loving warmth that I felt enveloped me, comforting me, despite the fact that this man was an obvious stranger to me. Why did I respond in this manner? Why didn't I run away?

Train Up A Child

Raped Mind

Pharmaceutical preachers propagate their gospel,
Commercializing deceit and envy for fame.
They cry in the streets for all who hear
Urging, "Come and get your 'dab will do ya'."

Delve into the world they sell you,
Colorful capsules of gluttony and fear,
Packaging so convincing and grotesque,
Get addicted and come back for more.

A cold heart can see what blinded eyes cannot,
Raped in their homes and addicted to god.
They sacrifice at the altar of nonsense their sanity for security,
Yet do not perceive it.

They accept the lie that freedom can be bought,

Prayer of a Sorrowful Heart

Where's my Damascus Road?
My time to find you
A desert place where you speak?
Blinding me beside you,
Teaching

Find me like I am,
Hating you somehow.
Different without you,
An image of myself…
Divided

I cry to you when no one hears,
In this sanctum of solitude.
In my heart I curse you,
Do you hear me when I call?
Silent

In spite of you I am here.
When you're nearest to me,
I have already gone.

Wake me from this heavy sleep.
Drawing from within me
A cry for freedom.

(I wrote this on January 1, 2004 after about a year of seeking the Christian god for answers.)

Euphemism

Did pagan blood drip
From his screaming veins?

Stand here.

Tell me that line again
Where we all win…

Is this your Underground Railroad?
My Sweet Chariot to carry me home
Down the Yellow-brick road
Paved by the Slave himself.

Is this absurd to think?
I now wear his soiled robes
With pride I hide my face
In your open-air market of disgrace.

It's my refuse you refuse,
The rest of me can stay to pay
To listen to euphonious eulogies
For your dead itinerant demagogue.

Is that about right?
I disgust you.

We Must Be Awful

The commonly held misconception is that atheists, and more specifically formerly religious atheists, will give themselves to gross, irrational behaviors to the detriment of their families and the society. While morality, as defined by religious tradition, looks much different from true societal morality, the non-religious are often more convinced of their morality from a philosophical perspective, and are therefore more moral.

Define 'Enemy'

What is an Enemy?
A proper definition of 'enemy' generally contains terms such as 'opposition', 'hostility', and 'hate' and implies that the other party is aware of these feelings. While we can conceive of unfounded, delusional hostility toward an individual, the formation of an enemy is typically fueled by neglect of duty, gross misunderstandings, consistent disregard for personal well-being, and the like. Experience also leads us to conclude that these feelings are frequently reciprocated, though we cannot assume that they follow out of necessity.

An Enemy is NOT...
